“Mom, I can’t believe you’re making a blog about recycling and there isn’t any green in it!”
Hmm… it’s true. Somehow when the inspiration for Karmic Recycling came to me, I visualized it with lots of red and gold. Maybe some purple and teal accents. But green? Nope.
Why is that, I wondered? I mean, it is about recycling, a “green” topic. But when I started to articulate what I want the blog to be about, I realized that it wasn’t green in my mind’s eye because Karmic Recycling is more about Life than about being Green.
Recycling is about whether we toss the plastic water bottle in the right container. Karmic Recycling asks us to look at why we grabbed the bottle in the first place, where it ends up after it leaves the curb, and who drove the truck that took it there.
Instead of being a how-to for one-upping Ed Begley, a guilt-inducing tirade on Those People who are trashing the planet, or a hand-wringing pronouncement that we can never do enough, Karmic Recycling’s raison-d’etre is to ask questions: to be curious about our interactions with the Stuff in our lives, with a light touch and hopefully some humor.
We’ll talk about recycling, sure. But we’ll also discuss trash art, worm bins, tchotchkes, mindful consumption, wabi-sabi, branding (as in logos, not cows), garage sales, Nimbyism, karma, and a whole lot of other fun stuff. I hope you’ll join me as Karmic Recycling evolves.
So what do you think of the title Karmic Recycling? What does it conjure up for you? Got any topics you’d love to throw out for post suggestions?

Hi Louise. I’m looking forward to reading your new blogs.
Thanks, Lisa! I am still getting used to WordPress, which does things differently than my last blog platform. But the best way to learn something is to do it, I guess, so I’ll be learning pretty fast ;-)
Karmic Recycling? Is that similar to repurposing?
Hey Denise, thanks for the comment. Yeah, I think repurposing definitely falls into the Karmic Recycling fold :)
Congrats on your “launch”, Louise. Like your logo- some “Wabi-Sabi” there? Look forward to reading…

Thanks, Kris! I am just learning about wabi-sabi, but I think it is kind of neat. I throw lots of kudos for the design to my friend and graphic designer Courtney who made my very general ideas come to life.
Hi Louise,
The site looks great. I just heard about MedWish International in Cleveland, Ohio a medical waste recycler. Might be an interesting blog post.
So glad we could connect through 2days.
Kimberly
Hi Kimberly! Thanks for the comment. Medical waste recycling sounds intriguing — I’ll have to look into that.
